“We can never obtain peace in the outer world until we make peace with ourselves.”  Dalai Lama

My name is Dr. Maggie Shafiro and I am the founder of Wellbeing Consulting. My experience and research over the past 10 years have lead me to believe that having balance in our lives makes us happier, healthier, more fulfilled, and more present.

I began studying balance as part of my psychology training. My dissertation was done on evaluating work-life balance and how people use social support systems. I taught classes on work-life balance at Portland State University and the University of North Carolina. As a consultant and later vice president of an employee survey company, I continued to learn more about bringing balance and well-being in the lives of people through interactions with leaders of organizations ranging in size between 400 to 15,000 employees across the United States.

My personal and professional experiences brought me to the realization that balance has to come from within an individual. The more we learn about how to navigate our own sense of Self, we are more likely to seek situations, people and circumstances that are nourishing rather than self-distracting. The benefits of what I learned and integrated were apparent not only in my own life but in the lives of those around me as well.

Because I wanted to share the wisdom of taking care of Self with others, I became a certified Meditation and Perfect Health Instructor through Dr. Deepak Chopra’s Center. Additionally, I completed the Mindfulness-based stress reduction class developed by Dr. Kabat-Zin at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. In June 2010, I will complete an Integrative Health Coach program through Duke University Integrative Medicine.

Together, my experiences, knowledge, and training have given me insights and the ability to help others achieve balance. Whether you are an individual or an organization, I can help you use balance to achieve success and internal peace.
